Barclays Bank, who sponsor the English Premier League, have been holding a contest in India to discover the nation's greatest football fan, in the “Biggest Fan of India” contest.

They started their search more than six months previously and thousands upon thousands of soccer followers from everywhere in the extensive continent applied for the prize, sending in scrapbooks, video clips, pictures in addition to extensive correspondence in support of their statements.

The judges, counting the ex-Man Utd stars Gary Pallister as well as Bryan Robson, will have had had a tricky period attempting to select a champion from such a sizable collection of entrants, but they finally determined to present the reward of 2 VIP tickets to a Premier League game to Aby Baby Kuruvilla, who had sent in a videotape of him singing long and passionately about his beloved Arsenal Football club!

Aby, a twenty four year-old from Bangalore, is as expected thrilled about being flown in to London for tonights crucial game involving Arsenal against Liverpool at the Emirates. He said: “Winning the competition can be described as dream come true.

It hasn’t even sunk in that I’ll be travelling to the Emirates Stadium - the home of the Gunners - to watch the side play live. I’ve always supported Arsenal and will continue doing so until the end of time. I haven’t missed a single game of the team on TV for years. Thirty eight games a season is just not enough!”

One of the judges, Bryan Robson, was happy for Aby, and said: “We were over-whelmed at seeing the response from the contest. I would like to congratulate Aby, who obviously adores Arsenal Football Club. It was a tough decision to choose only one winner from the thousands of entries we received but Aby came across as the most passionate of all”

Even Arsene Wenger welcomed Aby to the Emirates, and was delighted that an Arsenal supporter had been crowned as the best football fanatic in India. He said: “We are proud to have so many fans all over the world supporting Arsenal Football Club. We are delighted that Aby has won this special prize and we are truly grateful for his support towards Arsenal from so far away.

We hope that Aby has a memorable trip to Emirates Stadium.”

It is impressive to understand of the fact that Barclays Premier League games (380 a season) are beamed to in excess of 500 million homes all around the globe, however this game is probably among the most important of the season.

Arsenal and Liverpool are at present third and fourth in the Premiership, therefore the winner will gain a foothold in the race to make the Champions League places at the end of the season. While Arsenal are still contenders to win the trophy, they cannot afford to let fall any more points after gaining just one from their preceding 3 league matches, whilst Liverpool have only just managed to regain a top four place following a disappointing start to the season. Even though Liverpool won the massive Merseyside derby at the weekend, they haven’t won at the Emirates for ten years, so they have a significant disadvantage to beat to be triumphant tonight.
