Varicose and spider veins are common medical complaints that result when blood flow from outlying parts of the body back to the heart becomes compromised. Veins in the leg are the most commonly affected, particularly on the back of the calf. These veins contain a series of leaflet valves that allow only upward blood movement. Transport of blood up the leg to the heart proceeds via ladder-like steps through this series of valves. Varicose and spider veins result when vein walls develop poor tone, causing valve malfunction. Blood then stalls out on its upward journey and may even move down the leg. Valve malfunction in smaller vessels produces spider veins. In larger ones, varicose veins result. The characteristic color of varicose and spider veins, observable only for veins near the surface, derives from the bluish-red tint of oxygen-depleted venous blood.
Depending on how bad the conditions get a physician may prescribe special socks. These socks called compression stalkings are made of elastic and are designed to constrict the legs and stop excess blood from flowing in to them. Sometimes these socks will have to be worn for the rest of the patient's life and other times this alone will be enough to stop the problem
But it just isn't older women hiding body parts and looking for an effective varicose vein treatment. It can happen to people younger than age 50. Shorts, T-shirts, and tank tops are boxed up and tossed in the back of closets. Today you don't have to suffer and live with those ugly varicose veins. Varicose vein treatments are available; some are natural - some not so much.
Some holistic doctors suggest increasing your intake of bioflavenoids, an ingredient found just below the surface of most citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits. Bioflavenoids strengthen capillary and vein walls which when they get weak are one of the main causes of spider veins.
Other doctors of natural healing suggest that exercises that tone the legs, such as laying on the back and raising the legs are effective. The theory behind this is that the blood drains from the spidered veins thus relieving pressure and reducing swelling. These exercises are not only good for battling spider veins but are also great for overall circulation.
The enlarged spider leg veins can be reduced naturally by the use of exercise to promote better blood circulation. Exercising each day promotes the correct and continual circulation of the blood through the veins. Exercising the legs is most important for this health issue, so activities like walking or leg lifts are extremely beneficial. Also, weight gain after an event like pregnancy contributes to spider leg veins. Losing weight can reduce the effects of spider leg veins.
A new supplement called Venovil, uses natural, herbal remedies to treat spider leg veins. It has been tested in clinical trials and found to be both effective and safe for treatment. Herbal supplements found in Venovil include Diosmin, Hesperidin, Pine Bark extract, and Nattokinase. These natural supplements help prevent blood clots, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, strengthen vein walls and reduce pain. These supplements come only from plants, trees, and herbs, and have been proven to reduce the discomfort and appearance of spider leg veins.
