Are you expenses growing every month? Are you unable to figure out where your money is being spent? Take a long and hard look at your phone bill. Don't let phone companies charge you exorbitant amounts for your monthly calls. Whether mobile bills or your house phone bills, they can be reduced. This does not mean you need to start avoiding your friends and family, with some changes you can easily cut your bill in half and save.

Here's how:

Your Phone Company

When was the last time you checked out the competition? Scan the web and find out various phone service providers and compare. Don't just compare the expenses, also check out the additional benefits they provide. If your current plan has some additional features, determine if they are beneficial or not. If you feel the bill you receive is unfair it's time for you to switch companies. But remember to do your homework and compare before switching.

Entire Package

Some companies offer a cheaper deal when you combine broadband Internet along with
television and telephone services. Ask your phone company if they have something like this. You can get such packages on your mobile as well, some people have better control over long distance calls if they use mobile phones instead of the regular ones. You can easily get unlimited local and long-distance landline service, for less than $50 or so a month. Ask you phone company if they have such packages.

Online Services

The Internet provides you many phone services that are very good and inexpensive. You can check out sites such as iChat, Skype, Yahoo Voice, Magic Jack and Vonage. Look into all these to check which suits you the best. The prices are very low and the quality can be vouched for too.

Pay Attention To Your Phone Bill

This will help you realize where you are going wrong. See how many minutes have been left unused or overused, and jump to a better plan accordingly . See which features need to be removed or added, as per your requirements.

Ditch One

If possible use only your mobile, chuck your home phone. If you need to have both, go in for a basic mobile. You are most likely going to use it just for communicating, you don't need to have a 2 megapixel camera or GPRS features on your mobile. Go basic and simple, cut costs wherever possible.

Prepaid or Postpaid

This is another factor that might be standing on your way of a cheap mobile bill. Some people think that prepaid will suit them better as it will ensure more control. Some think postpaid is inexpensive.

Calling cards

If you are one of those who needs to make lots of international calls, you can purchase these discount calling cards and save. Companies that sell these cards will usually offer better rates than your landline company. Recharging them is also extremely easy. They are fairly inexpensive, but not as low as Internet calls. If you prefer making international calls from your home phone, sign up for an unlimited long distance calls plan. If you make the long distance calls rarely, use a phone card, it may be cheaper than your existing phone plan. This might be your biggest source of savings.

Time your calls

Set an alarm every time you talk to someone, before you start talking. This will ensure that you don't exceed your time limit. Be frugal and avoid calling whenever possible, use the Internet instead and mail you friends and family. If your mobile has an unlimited text plan, message them rather than calling. Every month, allot an entire week where you don't make any calls, except for emergency purposes. You will be saving big in no time.
