Mineral makeup is something you should invest your money in, even though the application process does require more attention and time. You can really get a perfect look by following some simple tips.

Mineral makeup is in demand and it looks as though it will remain popular for quite sometime. Whether you are a first time user of mineral makeup, or you are a regular, you really need to know how to apply it properly. It may seem difficult at first and you will need to practice it for awhile until you become comfortable with it. You have to know the proper techniques to get the unblemished complexion you dream of.

Many mineral makeup brands provide a video or step-by-step instructions when you purchase their products. If you're purchasing mineral makeup from a makeup counter, you should ask for instructions from the salesperson on how to apply it. Be sure to pay attention to the instructions given and learn the techniques properly. Then you will notice the difference between mineral and traditional makeup.

The Tools: Brushes
Depending on whether you will be using mineral makeup as foundation or concealer, you'll need a different brush to apply it.

The brush, usually termed the Kabuki brush, is what will give you the best results when it comes to applying mineral makeup as foundation. They are like the blush or powder brushes but they have short and stubby handles and full, firm bristles. Mineral makeup is applied with a buffing motion so that the stubby short handle is easier to hold and move around while the short bristles create a coverage which is even.

If you plan to apply mineral makeup as a concealer, you can use your fingers to apply it (for the areas that require more coverage or for under eye circles) or a concealer brush (narrow and firm bristles that have a rounded tip) in the under eye region or a lip brush (short bristles that taper at the tip) for blemishes around the nose.

There are brushes that are used for applying mineral makeup sold with the makeup it self, however the quality of the brushes usually vary. You may have to try various Kabuki style brushes to find out which one you are most comfortable with. Brands such as L'Oreal and Neutrogena sell their mineral makeup products with built-in brushes to make it easier to carry around and apply.

The Technique
Since mineral makeup has a loose powder texture, you may want to dab it on your face like you would loose powder, but you shouldn't do that. Mineral makeup is less translucent than loose powder and it's meant to be applied as foundation, so you need to apply it in moderation and build it in stages to achieve the prefect flawless look.

These rules will help you to apply it properly

1. Put a small amount of the makeup on a tissue. You don't need much and you can always add more if need be.

2. Dab the Kabuki brush in the powder. Rotate the bristles into the powder, grabbing the product into the brush. The powder should go into the bristles, not just sit on the top. When there's no powder on the bristle tips, you're ready to apply it.

3. Buff the brush against your skin by first holding the brush at the center of your forehead in a circular motion, moving toward the edge of your face.
Continue to do this until you have to add more of the product. You should not have to add more than once or twice.

The buffing motion is important for a flawless complexion.
Have fun with your experimenting.
