It is obviously easiest to host a team building event in your office. However, there are certain advantages of having the activity take place elsewhere. You will find that your employees are more engaged in the activity, as they can't be distracted by e-mails, phone calls, or clients. Being away from work also helps employees relax and makes it easier for them to step outside their normal comfort zone in order to discover new roles.

You should be clear about your goals for a team building event. Leadership, co-operation, synergy, productivity and team work are all great team building ideas that you can incorporate into your activity. Additionally, you can reinforce corporate-level messages through this event. How you deliver your message is almost as important as the message itself. You can choose from scavenger hunts, amazing race events, sports days, climbing, painting or problem challenges. There is no shortage of great events to choose from, just ensure that it conveys the message you are trying to reinforce.

Merely taking a team out for some fun activity such as river rafting or wall climbing is not enough. You as a complete organizer need to see if the planning and arrangements actually served the purpose or not. You must try to focus on framing up its activities on the basis of the organizational goals and the needs of the team. A properly planned team building event makes your employees feel good about themselves and about each other. Employees get to know each other better and have a common experience to talk about back at work.

Set a clear purpose for the team building activity. Talk to the team and know what they want to be included in fun activities. Try to manage working hours and fun hours. Managing the time will help in building utmost trust among team members. Select the activity that boosts the team spirit and team involvement. You can ask the employees to take part in an activity to make them a part of this whole affair. This will help them connect to the team building event in a better way.

If your activity is going to be part of a larger conference, then you will have to consider when the event is going to take place. Usually the start or end of a conference is the best time for team building events. However, in case of a multi-day conference you can schedule the activity during the middle or end of a heavy lecture day in order to re-energize the group.

One important part of a team building weekend that is often overlooked is the evaluation process. It's not enough to plan a fun weekend and hope that throwing your project team into the mix will bond them into a working team. A successful corporate team building event must take into account the goals and needs of the individual company and department to bring the group together. Make an action plan that will be followed to put all the great ideas and plans into effect once you return to work. Plan your team building event properly to ensure its successful outcome.
