Tips on How to Make a Rose Silk Flower Arrangement:

• Selecting your silk – Visit your nearby local craft or fabric store & pick up thin silk in whatever design or color you like. Silk of two square feet length will be sufficient for a single flower. An additional amount of silk may be required for your leaves, which should not be less than six square inches.

• Cut into Pieces – Cut the silk into 11 pieces for the rose petals with the help of fabric scissors. A rectangular shape with rounded edges & a notch sticking out at the end are required to attach them together. In addition to this five small triangles with notches at the end should be cut in to create leaves.

• Spraying of starch – Spraying of starch on both the sides of cut silk pieces helps them stiffen up. When starch is damp, you should bend the tips of the petal slightly outward & then allow them to dry completely.

• Setting up the stem – Bend over a thick craft wire & cut it up to the length desirable for your stem. Create a loop at one end for a place to attach your flower.

• Attaching your flower & leaves - A small amount of craft glue is to be applied on the notch of each petal & then can be attached at the base of the loop made on the stem wire. A thinner wire can be looped around the petal notches to hold them further in place as you move along. Once the petals are in place, same method can be repeated with the leaves, but they need to be bent down away from the flower.

• Finishing it off – A green floral tape can be used to wrap the stem from the base of the leaves down to its end. You can apply small amounts of glue to the sticky back of the floral tape to ensure it looks perfect.

The same basic steps can be followed but with petals cut in different shapes to make a wide range of other silk flowers & silk flower arrangements as well.
