You must keep 2 things in mind when writing a food diary. Firstly, be patient and consistent. It can take up to several days before you start noticing some interesting patterns in your eating habits. Only after you diligently note down each minor detail about your daily eating, can you start seeing some patterns after few days.
So it is important to keep this up for many days. Do it consistently for at least a couple of weeks if you want noticeable results. Secondly, you must be honest while writing a food journal. What is the point of going through the whole exercise if you don't do it honestly.
Anyways, nobody else is going to see this journal. It is for your eyes only, so there is no point in hiding something. The more honest and detailed your food diary is, the more effective it can be for you.
It may seem boring at first. But after some time, you may start enjoying this a lot. It can even become an addiction with you, specially when you start noticing some pattern of behavior which you didn't realize previously.
