Here's a few facts that should be taken into consideration before learning how to count cards.

* If the remaining cards in the deck or the shoe is heavily saturated with 10s, Face Cards, and Aces... more hands will result in blackjacks and hands that total 17-21.

* If the two cards dealt to the dealer total 12-16, the dealer is required to draw another card and the dealer is more likely to go over 21 if the deck or shoe is heavily saturated with 10s, Face Cards, and Aces.

* If low value cards far outnumber the 10s, Face Cards, and Aces... the player should always carefully contemplate all decisions to split hands and to double down since the likelihood of winning the hand has been diminished by the number of low value cards that are remaining in the deck or the shoe.

As the cards are dealt, you'll need to keep track of the card count and all of your betting and blackjack strategy decisions should be based on the card count whenever it's your turn to act.

When the card count is close to zero, the deck or the shoe is considered to be in a neutral state and neither the player nor the dealer will have an advantage over the other.

You'll have a definite advantage over the dealer when the positive card count is high. That means that a good many of the low value cards have been previously dealt and there is a considerable amount of 10s, Face Cards, and Aces that still remain in the deck or the shoe. At that point, you should consider increasing your wager as the positive card count increases.

The dealer will definitely have a clear-cut advantage over the players when the negative card count becomes high. That means that many of the 10s, Face Cards, and Aces have already been dealt and there is a substantial amount of low value cards that still remain in the deck or in the shoe. At that time, you should reduce your wager as the negative card count deteriorates. This could possibly be an ideal time to find another blackjack table to play at.

The reliability of the card count will become more precise as more cards are dealt and the deck or the shoe nears completion. The player's odds of losing or winning will always relate to the card count.
