Tomatoes are a highly used ingredient in everyday life, from sauces to salads to chutneys to cooking. One of the best ways to enjoy tomatoes is fresh and you can't get fresher then homegrown. There is nothing quite so delicious as biting into a Tomato that you have grown yourself. Fresh from your own crop It tastes so much better then the mass produced tomatoes you can buy at the supermarket.

So here are five easy steps on how to grow your own fresh tomatoes from seeds to get you on your way

1. Next time you're slicing up a tomato on your chopping board and you get all those little seeds, save them. Put them in a little glass jar an empty

jam jar will do make sure the glass is filled with water. Then cover the jar in clingwrap and make a little hole in the plastic at the top of the jar

This allows the seed and water access to air, which is vital at this stage. Doing this then allows the gelatinous material that surrounds the seed to

be broken down and this is also helpful in eliminating seed borne diseases.

2 You then put the glass jar in a window or anywhere else where it will receive direct sunlight. You will find that after one to three days on top of the water will be a layer of muck. This is whats left of the the gelatinous material that surrounded the seed. carefully use a spoon to remove all of

the muck. .

3 Now find a sieve and simply rinse . It's not the end of the world if you cannot remove all the muck and material from the seeds however remove as much as you can. You should do this a few times until only the seeds are left.

4 Next get a plate and cover it in kitchen towel paper and place the seeds on it nicely and evenly spread out. Make sure you move them and turn

them over once a day or so they can dry out faster. The idea is to get them dry without them sprouting.

After these four simple steps you are almost ready to plant your very own tomato seeds

5 Now get a decent size container depending on how many seeds you have. Fill it with soil, Place the seeds in it with some space between to give the plants some room for growing. Make sure the seeds are ½ to 1 inch down in the soil. Water the soil and cover the container with plastic wrapping with a few holes for air. Find a nice sunny spot, a place that gets a least seven to eight hours of sunlight a day

You should soon see the seeds sprouting somtimes as fast as a week. It really depends on the conditions like sunlight etc. When the plants are 5-6 inches tall you will need to place them in larger containers. Thats all there is to it.
