Each bedroom has certain necessities as far as the furnishings like a space for sitting, a dressing area, and comfortable sleeping. With the right furnishings any room can be a bedroom. Looking at an empty space you need to determine where the sitting, dressing and sleeping areas will be.

In the creating process the furniture is your first concern and its best location will depend of the size of the space and where the outlets in the room are based as well as the windows and closet. The bed frame is the starting point and will be the focal point of the room. Set the frame up where you plan the sleeping area and when you have it placed well, put the rest of the bed together. Add some new linens and new bedcover. Place one or two night stands next to the bed on either side and have a look at what you have created to this point.

The windows are next. Using curtains or drapes that are coordinated with the bed covering, put up your new window treatments. When selecting your fabrics, keep in mind the colouring of the walls and floor. Now bring in the dressers. If possible two matching dressers work best offering plenty of space for storage of your clothing. The dresser placement should be either close to the closet or near corners. You want to create a grouping so that all the clothing is in one convenient area of the room.

Once you have these in place you will have crated a space in front of them that will be your dressing area. If you want to create privacy for your dressing area you can use a room divider or one of those decorator screens and problem solved. Place a mirror in this area so you can check your clothing as you dress for the day. This is also a very decorative addition to the room and adds some depth. For the smaller room a mirror gives the illusion of it being larger.

Most people want either a dressing table for applying makeup and doing hair or a desk for a computer in the bedroom. The desk should be placed near outlets for the electronic components. Add a chair pushed up to the dressing table or desk with a couple wall art pieces symmetrically placed and your room is almost finished.

If you have the space available, adding a small couch or love seat is an aesthetically pleasing addition. When possible, placing this under a window that gets a lot of sun gives the room a cozy and inviting feeling. With natural light coming from the window by the love seat or couch or perhaps lounging couch you have instantly created the perfect place for relaxing, reading or meditating.

When you are working with a smaller sized room it is best to use smaller furniture. This makes the space seem a lot larger than it is. Add an area rug to bring in more interest and a decorative flair to your bedroom. The rug should be a match to the color aesthetic of the room.

When your bedroom is carpeted, the area rug will still work but it has to compliment the carpet as well as coordinate with the other fabrics of the room. Use a pattern if the carpet is a plain color. This needs to match as much as possible the pattern of the drapes or bed cover. If you cannot decide flowers are a good choice and usually go with anything. If the room is larger use big flowers or smaller use small flowers. Now add a few decorative accessories that you enjoy and maybe a couple candles and you have created a very lovely bedroom anyone would enjoy.
