I'm sure you will agree with me when I say that roses are maybe one of the, if not the most lovely of all flowers that adorn our gardens. But, many of you will maybe also suppose that roses can be a bit difficult when you think of caring and planting. Well, should you feel that, all I can say, is you are in the right place.

Why? Because despite the fact that it is perhaps quite true a big number of garden lovers find roses a little complicated, there are many more that have made the effort to go out and acquire the correct knowledge for themselves and as a consequence, have changed the way they care for their roses. On the subject of roses, a really good rule of thumb is to water in the region of 1 inch every 7 days.|In the main roses want to be watered about once every 7 days and you should add about one inch of water.|As a general rule, roses want to get about 1 inch of water around once a week.}

Instead of thinking of the rose as a whole, the most vital part about watering is in fact the roots. A chararcteristic of the rose is it deep roots Why is this so? Because it allows them to get water deep down in the soil even though the surface may seem to be dry. So, even if there is little rain fall, the rose has far more opportunity of surviving.

By intentionally watering the roses roots you actually make the rose to grow healthier and deeper roots. As a result even if you water the roses themselves quite often, their roots will not grow deep enough and will stay fairly shallow in the soil where, regrettably, they are unable to get the water that remains lower down. As a consequence, the rose finds it hard to survive those hotter drier spells.

Looking after and caring for roses properly requires more than watering obviously and that is where fertilizing comes into play. Did you know that most types of roses can in point of fact stay alive for an incredibily long time, and I mean years, without being fed if they have been planted in lovely rich soil? A first rate soil is also chock-full of nice bugs which the rose is capable of taking nutrients from as well, not merely from the soil itself. So it's not just a matter of using a man-made fertilizer is a good thing for your roses because quite often is can destroy those bugs that the rose feeds on.

Unfortunately that's not all as well. What I mean is, if you are continually feeding your roses with a good natural fertilizer, they can actually become reliant on it. The more you give them, the more they want etc.So when it comes to fertilizing, the right way to go is to apply a special variety in both early spring when the rose is just starting to come out of its winter phase and also immediately after the flowers have gone when it is beginning to collect power for the winter in front. The fertilizer then slowly releases its nutrients into the soil over a period of time when the roses most need it. One time not to fertilize is just after the middle of the summer. You should keep to those two times above to use your fertilizer.

The next question you'll be looking at is whether you are going to use a natural organic or inorganic fertilizer. Actually roses can survive very well on both types. Remember the bugs we were talking about above? Well, as far as organic and inorganic fertilizers go, not surprisingly they will do better with the organic. And also your soil will get better over time.of all that is, over time , your soil will turn out to be enhanced.} Here's a terrific word of advice though if you are using inorganic fertilizer, go for a mixture of either 4-8-4 or 5-10-5. Ssshhh! Keep that our little secret!

The next thing I feel we should consider after watering and fertilizing is naturally pruning. Doing this accurately is very important. Pruning your roses should be done at two times during the year. First of all, early spring. Pruning at this point allows the rose added space which provides extra air to circulate to maintain its health. The pruning can also be carried out to shape the plant as well. You must prune away any broken, diseased or dead wood from the rose.

The second period of pruning should take place after the rose has flowered. I know you're possibly thinking now that that can't be right. I admit it may possibly sound a bit weird but trust me, it will stimulate more growth on the rose plant. It does this by establishing a fresh plant after the removal of the previous buds.

Caring and producing stunning roses does require, commitment and a little patience from you nevertheless, as I mentioned above, if you know what you're doing, have the correct knowledge and skills, it is actually a lot simpler than people make it out to be.
