The answer depends on what you are writing for. Are you merely keeping your web site fresh, writing for some links or competing for serious keyword terms?

If you are merely wanting to keep your site fresh and tempt several search engine traffic more than, then just once a week is enough. But most people do not have this in mind. If you are competing for a low level keyword term, let's say a local search, then a couple of articles a month each sent to a few different sites can be enough. But, if you are competing for a harder search term, then you might be in the position of having to write some articles per week. Probably not forever, but at least for as long as it takes for the articles to start showing an effect.

So how do you know, other than this rough guide, what is needed if you are writing for traffic? Well, at first, write as much as you can and distribute them to as loads of different places as possible. A big batch of articles hitting a directory in one go is impending to attract several traffic plus will get noticed by the search engines. Then, monitor carefully what is going on. Watch your traffic stats and see if you are getting readers from the various sites and watch your search engine positions. You should, if you do it properly, see a sudden rise in traffic and search engine ratings, after which just a couple of articles per week should maintain your positions.

If you are only working on a local search term, one that will not benefit much from direct traffic from an article directory, then paying someone to write and submit a few articles is possibly a good idea, if you do not want to get too involved in the back end of article writing. But the problem is that whereas you know your website subject very well, a writer might not know round it and part of the cost will be of them researching the topic. And if you are competing for a difficult search engine term, then you are going to need ample of articles produced. In this case, paying someone to write them for you is going to incur masses of charges. Rather than hiring a specialist, you could merely hire a ghost writer and submit their work as your own.

The other point is that if someone else is submitting the articles for you, then when readers click on the biography to read about the writer. In my experience, as numerous people view the author's profile as click a link to the web site. Once they have viewed the profile, they could then visit the author's site from there. If it is not you submitting them, then you are not getting the full benefit of them. If you really might't face writing a few articles, then hiring a ghost writer is a solution. But it is best to make sure that you are at least submitting them yourself to get the best benefit.
