In case of an emergency, the solar option should still have a back up generator available.

In short, a traditional water heater is less efficient due to heat loss and the water heater constantly having to kick on to keep the water at the set temperature. A tankless water is only like a traditional in the aspect that it still takes as long for the water to travel to the appliance. The difference is that it heats the water as it is needed and is non-stop. Though, be careful to not leave the water running for long periods of time as you may lose that money saving efficiency.

Other areas to consider in home building is the type of windows you are installing, the heating an cooling system, energy consumption of appliances, materials available.
