To hire a choreographer, you need to understand what a choreographer is. They study the musical beats in music and express the feelings through movements. They design and create dance movements for dance companies, professional dancers, dance studios, amateur performing dance companies, and much more.
Most will specialize in a certain style of dance such as hip hop, classical ballet, tap, jazz to name a few. The goal is to be creative with movements to express the dance in motion. They have different styles within styles but they all understand the importance of patterns of dance using their own ideas.
Dance being as strenuous as it is, many dancers will retire from dance in their thirty's and start choreographing, as they have had a tremendous amount of experience and want to use their ideas. Through their own experience, they have learned to express great ideas with dance and have gained a reputation. They want to teach others to feel the music.
When looking to hire a choreographer, it is a good idea to go see some of their work. They may teach at a dance studio or choreograph for a show that you can watch. They may have a performance at a local event that you can observe their dancers.
They are usually a freelance artist. Some dance part time while choreographing part time. Watching them perform will give you an idea of their style. Some artist can and do dance in a varieties of styles. So if you are wanting more than one style, finding an artist that can teach more than one will save you time looking for another choreographer. Or they may be able to recommend someone that is talented in the other styles.
The cost for a choreographer can vary. They usually will charge by the hour but keep in mind that they create the dance before they start teaching, so that is extra time that they do not charge for. So the cost for the hours actually teaching, includes their own time creating, making the music, and so on. This makes the cost per hour a lot less for the teacher, as they usually do not charge for the time spent getting everything ready.
A good way to see many choreographers, going on line and viewing them dance or some of there work, is a great way to get started. Many have websites for their work, either at the studio they work at or a show that they choreographed. Every one is very unique in their own style. Calling and talking to owners of dance schools, college dance classes, professional dance companies, is a good way to get some recommendations.
To hire choreographer can be very fun while doing the research and watching many different styles of dance. There are many teachers looking for ways to express their skills on the dance floor. Watch them teach and how they relate to the dancers, is important also. You want the dancers to enjoy the instructions, as they will perform better if they are having fun. A good choreographer can connect with the students, dancers, and make them really feel the music and perform so that the audience gets into the music with them.
