Hiring a car is a great way to help you get around and about when you head away on your holiday this year. With so much on offer at every destination, it can be difficult to fit everything in that you want to see and do. Fortunately renting a car is so easy to do that you can be sure of having the chance to take in everything you want on your trip.

It''s possible to get a hire car by going to an agency which you''ll find either in a big resort city or at an airport. You''ll usually be able to book online in order to reserve a vehicle, and then collect it at the time and place you''ve arranged.

In order to rent a car, you''ll have to agree to the terms and conditions. Such terms of rental may include a minimum or maximum age the driver must be, a limit to how many miles or kilometres you may travel in the car, or restrictions about what type of surface you may drive on.

Thanks to technology like Global Positioning Systems, hire agencies may be able to actively limit the speeds at which you travel when using their vehicles. Regardless of their own particular terms, whatever agency you choose you''ll be asked to show them a valid driving licence, and ultimately to bring the vehicle back in a good condition.

When you hire a car from some agencies, you''ll also be in line for extra benefits. For instance they may provide you with a satellite navigation system, a ski rack, winter tyres, or entertainment systems with your vehicle.

Car hire agencies generally have a large fleet of vehicles which they are able to rent out to you. In some cases they will own the fleet, and so are going to be taking a risk on how much of the money they can recoup from the cost of the vehicles. Sometimes they are owned under a guaranteed repurchase programme arranged via the car manufacturer. Alternatively they may be leased. Vehicles which are too old are generally sold to salesmen or dealerships, or put on auction.

Having the proper and sufficient degree of insurance is important too if you want to hire a car. A damage insurance policy will give you full cover, but will be more costly than another option such as collision damage waivers which will cover the costs of damage received due to accidents. Liability insurance, furthermore, will cover the cost of any damage done to others. Personal accident insurance, on the other hand, will take care of any medical bills.

This may all seem like a lot to bear in mind, however it is well worth the effort when you are able to go out on the open road to explore on your holiday with the freedom of having a car to yourself.
