New York's luxury lifestyle revolves around the fashion industry Those who do not work in the fashion industry, or to be the first one towear the latest into your office environment. Most of the New York Luxury Condo Neighborhoods overlook the Manhattan outlets for Prada, Christian Dior, Runway, Calvin Klein, and more.
At the first sign of spring tells us it's time to abandon our winter wardrobes. This year spring is abandoning the old, and introducing new styles for Manhattan's Fashionistas.
The New York Times, and Style.com are introducing the flared pant, in all it's guises, as the biggest thing we will see on the streets of Manhattan.
Has New York really seen the end of the skinny pant? Can those of us with too many curves finally breathe a sigh of relief? I'm no J.Lo, but it didn't matter how those skinny pants were tailored, they just never looked very thin on me.
The new styles will reflect the Manhattan lifestyle. From Philip Lim's channeling of glam hippie chic to Giambattista Valli's absolutely stunning suits. Anyone with fashion sense can find over the top fun at Pucci with feathered flares. For those with a more conservative style move just ever so slightly to the wide side with Derek Lam's vision of perfectly tailored skinny flares.
There are some new styles that do not speak to me I was not immediately taken with the concept of short flares as seen at Issey Miyake and Prada. I fail to see how visually chopping one's legs in half can be a great look. This does not work for me.
I admit, I don't know what to make of Mui Mui's literal take on "bell bottoms". Somewhat cute. Very odd. Wearable? meh, not so much. Too Carrie Bradshaw for me.
The End of Skinny - Changes in Sizing
I thought I was the only one who finds fault with how certain houses cut their jackets. Belle Robinson of Jigsaw also complained about the sizing some luxury houses follow. There is a fashion style in New York that is associated with Luxury. It demands a streamlined body. But, when we put in the effort to look right, the fashion houses are expected carry their weight.
I am not a size zero, truthfully, I wear a 6/8. So why can't I get my arms into the sleeves of an Armani jacket? I have slightly wider than normal shoulders are genetic, but my little unmuscled arms are normal. So why are there are a number of brands I can't wear.
I tried an Armani suit in Paris a couple months ago? The slacks and skirt fit fabulously, but shoving my arms into the jacket was insulting. I was afraid to move my arms up or down, never mind reach out and pick up my wallet to pay for it.
I travelled to Manhattan's Upper East Side last month. Lending Europeans the benefit of the doubt, I decided to try again in New York where the sizing is adjusted to our North American benchmarks.
No luck. How can I carry a Starbucks cup? If I drop until I can fit that jacket, the weight of a Blackberry will be totally draining.
I abandoned my Armani adventure. I fared much better with Micheal Kors and Ralph Rucci. Speaking of Ralph Rucci. In addition to the usual fabulous, understated lux which he normal provides, he offered some, magnificently tailored, flared trousers. Time to head through the shadows of the Office Towers and Luxury Condos of New York's 5th Avenue for a little retail therapy.
