Genital Herpes which is also medicaly referred to as, Herpes Simplex 2 or HSV-2 is a part of the herpes virus family. The virus can be easily transmitted and is capable of spreading and infect any part of the body. The Herpes Simplex 2 virus is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus and unlike HSV-1 it is a sexually transmitted disease whether through vaginal, anal or oral sex.

The HSV-2 virus does not live outside the body for an extended period of time so persons are unable to catch genital herpes from on object such as a toilet seat which has been used by an infected person but it can be transmitted by secretions of saliva.

The warning signs related to herpes simplex 2 are called herpes sores which can appear on the anus, mouth or genital area which is also called genital herpes or warts. Infections may take place without the infected person even knowing until there is an outbreak of sores. Initially there is normally an onset of pain and itching along the affected area followed by sores that appear a few hours or days later. These outbreaks can become extremely uncomfortable and persons may identify red bumps on the genital area, the anus or the buttocks, these red bumps soon become red watery blisters that may open up ooze fluid and bleed. Genital herpes can even cause great discomfort when the persons begins to urinate.
The healing process usually takes effect within the following two to four weeks. There is no cure available for herpes simplex 2 so when it goes away it’s actually a way of hiding in the body pending its next outbreak. It can resurge at anytime and usually it come back to the same area as it previously did however not all individuals who are infect with Herpes Simplex 2 experience resurging genital sores. Even when there are no visible signs of herpes simplex 2, the infected person can still transmit the virus through unprotected sex. The only way to stop genital herpes is to always make sure you use a condom when having sex. There are however, prescribed antiviral medication that can be used to minimize the amount of herpes virus that is around.

The symptoms of the HSV-2 virus tend to be more severe in the females sex versus the male sex. genital herpes can cause the vulva and other sections of the vaginal area to become irritated with blisters that develop from painful ulcers, Inflammation may also occur in the anus. Men tend to have ulcers and inflamed blisters on the top or shaft of the penis and also around the anus. The pain experienced from ulcers on the genitalia can be very excruciating. Other symptoms of herpes simplex 2 are; Numbness and tingling in the legs, between the genitals and anus, tender lymph nodes in the groin and severe headaches. Genital herpes also increases the possibility of an HIV infection, because when there is a break in the skin, it makes it easier for the virus to enter your system.
