Younger-onset individuals may be employed or have children still living at home, and they face different issues including ensuring financial security and helping children cope with the disease. Experts estimate that some 500,000 people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

Caring for patients with Alzheimer’s is no easy task. One Alzheimer’s caregiver said in an interview that caring for someone with the disease is “…like a black cloud that follows you all the time because you know it’s going to get worse but you don’t know how you are going to deal with it.” <
