HGH - Human growth hormone, an anti-aging supplement, is a legal, scientifically valid substance that is approved for correcting the growth of growth hormone-deficient children. Human growth hormone has been in the news recently because of the Mitchell Report on doping in Major League Baseball. HGH is one of the illegal substances used by baseball players, but it sometimes gets lumped together with steroids.

Athletes had believed that HGH can increase athletic performance but this belief doesn't have a scientific basis. As far as athletic performance is concern, it is still best for athletes to show their true potential without the help of any drug or supplement. Athletes are making wrong use of these supplements to enhance their performance. There are many benefits of HGH supplements but wrong use of these has put questions on it. Athletes also use it to improve their athletic performance, although the ability of hGH to increase athletic performance is debatable.

Athletes, both professional and amateur, as well as the general public are convinced that human growth hormone (HGH) , Erythropoietin (EPO) and anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are all artificial and controversial paths to improved performance in sports. The recent headlines that have included Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, Floyd Landis, Dwayne Chambers, Jose Canseco, Jason Giambi, Roger Clemens and many lesser known names (see the amazingly long list of doping cases in sport ) have referred to these three substances interchangeably leaving the public confused about who took what from whom. Athletically Ankiel would still be above and beyond the vast majority of us even if he didn't take HGH. Athletes in many sports use human growth hormone to enhance their athletic performance despite that recent studies have not been able to support claims that human growth hormone can improve the athletic performance of professional male athletes. Studies have found that, on young, healthy male adults, HGH treatment improves physical appearance and increases resistance to some injuries.

Athletes are not the only people who benefit from them. People who have dwarfism and other hormone deficiencies use them as well. Athletes who used HGH were banned in the 1988 Tour de France because of the enhancement effects of the hormone. HGH is known to have an effect in bone density, muscle mass and the whole body composition.

Secretion levels are highest during puberty and decrease during adulthood and are directly related to aging. Secreted by the anterior pituitary located just inside the base of the skull, GH is responsible for working in conjunction with other hormones in the body to stimulate and regulate proper human growth and development. GH levels generally reach their all time high at puberty and significantly decline around the age of 40.
