Graphic designers are artists in the most technical sense. Not so many were found to do freelancing, not until now. Graphic design is a huge demand for startup companies who wish to outsource their designing requirements. Why outsource?

Outsourcing can reduce the expenses of hiring full time graphic designers. More so if the bulk of work isn’t that much. Usually companies prefer a freelance graphic designer who has had valuable experience. It may be lay outing, photography or the more strategic parts of graphic designing, conceptualization.

For a starting freelance graphic designer, where should one begin? If you’re serious about offering your graphic design services, make sure you manage your time well. Set realistic time frames where you can work as a freelance graphic designer. Realistic meaning, six months the least and be able to stick to this date.

Since freelancing is close to becoming self-employed, make sure that you create a plan of action where you can focus on your business. Be able to save as much money as you can in that span of time, you may need it to for consultation fees with regards to office supplies, accountants, lawyers, computer software, etc.

Be able to draft your contract with your lawyer. You may need this once you start getting clients. Familiarize yourself with legal obligations so that clients will not take you as an unprofessional. In legalities, it is simply not worth the risk.

Highlight your graphic design skills by creating your logo. This image will be what your business represents from now on. Through this logo will you be identified by your clients and give them an assessment of the graphic design skills that you have. Intricate logos don’t equate huge number of clients; it only means you’re versed in other graphic design techniques. Embed the logo in all your office stationery (most especially those that reach the client more), have them all professionally printed.

Make sure to design your business card. Include the logo in this card and also have it professionally printed. The card will also be part of your marketing tool. When you network with other graphic designers, make sure that they know who you are. Who knows, maybe they could pass or refer you work.

Never underestimate the power of the internet. Use it also as your marketing tool. Build online contacts and register your domain name, pronto! Avail of the services of an excellent web host. Get something that has good reputation and with the added features. As long as were still in the subject of marketing, make sure you also strategize your online presence. In the web, you can highlight the projects that you have worked on and also portray a tech-savviness to your potential visitors.

Lastly, always be professional. For any enquiries you receive, promptly reply. Your clients are excellent referrals and for repeat services.
