In the beginning golf is usually easier and we have a tendency to learn quicker making huge strides forward with our game. This is why it is important to start correctly as any bad habits you may have were probably ingrained when taking up golf. But the good news is you can change the faults through training and put into practice and learn the right way of doing things. These days qualified professional guidance can be found from your resident professional to online websites where you will obtain all the answers you need. Below you can find a few snippets of information I am sure will help you along the way to improved golf.

1. Of vital importance in golf is your alignment. Not being able to hit the ball to your target is going to be a huge setback if you want to improve. Always aim the club-face first before taking your stance, then set yourself up parallel to the club-face to target line. Try to see in your mind's eye a railway line with your toes touching one side of the track and the ball to target line being on the other.

2. A sensible strategy is to pick a target that keeps you away from trouble off the tee. Use the teeing area to your advantage by teeing up the ball on the same side as the trouble and then you can aim away from it. By doing this you will not have to take as many penalty drops or have to reload from the tee for being out of bounds, which will help keep your score as low as possible.

3. Retain a steady head position throughout the golf swing. Your golf will improve faster by doing this and will help with more consistent shotmaking. Bear in mind I said keep your head still and not DOWN. Keeping your head down has ruined many a first-class swing. Raise up your chin and you will produce a better shoulder turn which will allow you to keep your head still.

4. The skill of reading greens correctly must not be overlooked. Take time to develop your green reading skills as this will improve your putting no end. As well as the natural contours of a golf green you will also discover that a golf ball will by and large roll away from a hill and towards a water source. So keep this in mind and adjust as necessary. Once you have determined on the amount of break don't second-guess yourself over the ball. Be confident and commit yourself to the line you have chosen.

5. The grain of the green is another essential aspect to consider too as it will effect the roll of the ball. Shiny grass tells you that the grain is running away from you, and dull grass highlights the grain running towards you. If your putt is with the grain then the ball will roll further as it will be a faster putt. Those against the grain go slower and as a result less far.

6. A lot of the new soft spikes fitted in golf shoes get clogged up rapidly with grass, so make sure you scrape this away. A good foothold is very important to have in golf and this is one small tip that will help to improve that.

7. One thing I know a lot of golfers overlook is their golf grips. Make sure to clean them in warm soapy water with a scrubbing brush then towel dry. Do this once a week and you will be amazed how the grips feel and how much easier it will be to control the golf club as slippy, worn grips are a nightmare. When you have done this I am sure you will be more aware of how important having like-new grips is because they are your only connection to the clubhead. It should go without saying that if this does not help revive the grips then you must replace them as soon as possible.

These are just a few guidelines that will help any standard of golfer improve his game. I look forward to speaking again soon. Have a great time on the Links.
