Mothering Sunday or Mother''s Day is a day honoring mothers, celebrated on various days in many places around the world. In the UK and Ireland Mother''s Day falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent (exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday). It is believed to have originated from the 16th century Christian practice of visiting one''s mother church annually, which meant that most mothers would be reunited with their children on this day.

So, Mother''s Day is the one day of the year where sons and daughters all over the world desperately attempt to find the perfect gift to make up for the trouble they caused as a teenager, the constant requests for food or money or new clothes and all of the times a visit or phone call was promised and never materialised.

Leading up to Mother''s Day there is always row upon row of cards and gift ideas so there is no excuse for forgetting. Here are a few suggestions for that perfect gift from a bouquet of seasonal flowers to personalised jewellery.

As with any occasion you can never go wrong with a delicious box of chocolates or a beautiful food hamper. Numerous retailers offer luxury hampers in a broad range of prices boasting items such as sweets and biscuits, speciality teas and conserves and even hampers containing your favourite tipple from a wine selection to beers and spirits. So whatever your Mum is partial to there will be a hamper to meet her needs.

Try organising a meal for the whole family, this can either be at a favourite restaurant or a venue which has special meaning for your Mum or you could try your hand at preparing a feast at home, either way, this will be an opportunity for the whole family to celebrate together.

If you feel like spoiling your Mum this year why not splash out on a beautiful piece of jewellery or a bottle of her favourite perfume. For something extra special you could opt for a personalised piece of jewellery offered by various retailers, you can get items such as name plate necklaces, charm bracelets and engraved rings.
