So you are moving out of mommy and daddy as place. Good for you! It is time to pack your bags, load the car and say your not so tearful goodbyes. But before you move into that new two bedroom place on Sunset, there is a few things might need. To begin with, you need a television. You certainly couldn't survive without your video games or Judge Judy reruns. And you need some furniture. The bare minimum, of course: a desk, a chest of drawers and a nightstand. Oh, and you also need a coach. I mean, where else would you sit? Is that it? No, there is something you're forgetting. Right, that is it. You need to buy a bed. The old one is stained and small, and besides you mother wouldn't let you take it with you.

But mattresses are expensive, and if you want to get the right one you'd better do your research. It is important. Think about it. We're talking about a product you'll be using eight hours a day every day for the next five to ten years. That is one third of your day! You wouldn't buy a car or even a bicycle without testing it out first, and you're bound to use your bed a lot more.

What to look for in a new bed

1. Size

This might seem obvious, but many people try to save money by purchasing mattresses that are too small for them. That is because there is a pretty substantial price difference between different size mattresses. So people often go for a single bed when they really need a twin or a twin bed when they really need a queen. In the end, however, they often discover that saving a few dollars doesn't mean much if you can get a good night is sleep.

2. Comfort

Again, this might seem obvious, but every person has their own ideas about comfort, especially when it comes to mattresses. Some people like a soft mattress with a lot of give, while others like a firmer mattress. You may also have an injury that makes a certain type of mattress more comfortable for you to sleep on. In the end, it is always best to take the mattress for a little test drive. No, you don't need to spend the night in the store. But no one will mind much if you stretch out on the store model and relax just a bit.

3. Quality

While comfort and size may be the first things you look for, you also need to consider the quality of the mattress. To determine quality you should make sure that you know a bit about the brand that manufactures the mattress. Does it have a good reputation? You should also check to make sure that you choose a mattress that is quite thick, because the thicker the mattress is the more padding and coils it is likely to have.

4. Warranty

The last thing you will want to consider when looking for a mattress is the product warranty. As we mentioned, mattresses are expensive, and any reputable company should stand behind their product and offer their customers a full warranty if they happen to receive a defective mattress.
