Getting old gracefully..

In the 1960’s care homes were few and far between, and going to one was then seen as a extravagance. Sadly, that opinion has died off of late, care homes are currently viewed as more of an expensive inevitability than any real gratification. The outlook of full time care has of late altered radically, in the early 60's care homes were catered to the wealthy and famous and to inhabit in one full time was a dream come true to nearly all. Unfortunately this outlook has reversed in todays society full time care is viewed as a negative.. With a care home or nursing home on all nearly avenue, the market has squeezed to fit our aging inhabitants. Unfortunately, so has the competitive nature of the business. Care homes and nursing homes are now bountiful if not a little congested, causing the care industry to buckle somewhat adding an unfortunate competive component to the marketplace.

Lesser family run care businesses look to be now a thing of the past, as superior, contemporary deluxe facilities take the shine off lesser family operated care homes that cant compete. The term care village was labelled on the larger care services by American care providers in the late 40’s. America now offers over 300 care villages to its population, in comparison to Britain’s 20 or so.Sadly, these larger organisations are disturbing how the "little man" care homes are operating, with many losing customers, takings and respect if not completely closing down in some cases. Of course this is a reflect affect of America's care industry in the mid 80's where Care Villages began to come to the forefront leaving many family run businesses crippled. . But taking all of this information into account, could these new "Villages" really revert the currently negative opinion back to a positive outlook on care? . They have a great range of activities and services, as well as 100’s of people to associate with at any time. The miserable fact of big business is that only the strong survive, and in this case if the market demands bigger, newer quality homes or villages then that is what will be supplied.New larger villages offer more jobs, security to residents and additional activities than the at present dying out private homes.

These villages can cater to all spectrums of care requirements from essential retirement to full on nursing 24 hour care. If we look away from the care feature of these new services, we understand that much more is at present offer, numerous more jobs are formed, residential secuirty is increased, more activities are presented to keep residents functioning and aware.. With this in mind, residents no longer have to move from their settled environment once their care needs worsen in time. This can frequently amend their mental situation of mind therefore affecting their physical status.

Although standards of care may not differ vastly between the larger care villages and the lesser family operated care services. The outlook of which facility offers the higher level of care is immensely dissimilar. With power of eternity going to close loved ones, the verdict to move “mum” into the new deluxe home over the small 10 bed home at the end of the road is made, adding to the previously vertical deterioration of the small long-established care home. This is all very fine, but who is to say the actual care offered is better just because the home is larger and offers more glitz. Alas, with power of attorney going to close loved ones bigger more aesthetically nice-looking homes are preferred adding to the endless decline of small family run care homes. I believe anyone in the industry would welcome a new alteration and a fresh face and prospect to potential clients, of course care villages are not for everybody but then neither are smaller old fashioned homes. Watch this space.
