Getting my Home Back with the Help of Shelving.

True story -- Mice had invaded my home. So there it is straight out, my words on record for all to read. My greatest mistake was organization and it ultimately led to this disaster. How many people can you think of who are unable to park their car in their own garage? You might be one among them -- I sure was. Most of the things lying in my garage had been virtually turned into hideaways for many creatures.

I will explain how we eradicated them in a moment, but baring in mind the old adage that prevention is better than cure I set about finding out how to prevent this happening again. I went to the library to figure out how to cure my rat problem, and while I was there, I noticed how organized they were with their movable shelving units -- The kind with levers on the edge that make the shelves rotate if you crank them. There had to be some way I could help my garage and home in a similar fashion. And thus began my mission to find the ideal shelving.

I began thinking what my van would look like with shelves -- you know how it is, you see adverts for bin shelving for vans and think this would be ideal for my computer equipment etc.

At that point, I had a great deal of lumber stockpiled in my garage. Since that could not be ignored, I inquired around and finally decided on heavy-duty steel shelving. I decided it would likely help a lot. Rather than leaving lumber piled off up all over the place, it would now have a good location.

Something had to be done about our home office as well, so we went with shelving by design. I found what I was searching for with this terrific line of shelves. What pleased me the most was that aside from having all of my records and files together, they were also visually attractive.

I was even able to get some wire shelving units for our hall and bedroom closets. It didn't take much time before I was able to set up the shelves, while leaving room for the shirts, coats, and other things that I would need to hang there.
This allowed me to store hats, belts and shoes on these new shelves, thus keeping the floor clear.

Our garage-mates needed to be evicted, but we needed to get help to do that. Our first step was to empty out our garage. We did keep some stuff, but we threw away most of everything. I'm not making this up. The worst part was that our pictures -- our memories -- were completely destroyed. Many of them anyway. When we put everything back in, there were shelving units, and plastic bins at the ready. What caused all of it? A bag of dog food that was left open.
