Chicago is coy about its own greatness. This huge city should by no means be runner up to New York. But the awesome architecture doesn’t just stop with the skyscrapers. The city’s has also played a starring role in American history from gangsters to railroads and architecture to sport. Chicago has quietly been cultivating a reputation as the culinary capital of the US. This colourful history and diverse ethnic mix make Chicago one of America’s greatest cities.

Chicago’s skyline is the tallest in the world with three out of five of America’s tallest skyscrapers. The most famous is the Sears Tower which is one of the tallest in the world at 1451 ft. The best place to admire this view is from the other side of Lake Michigan by the Adler Planetarium.

If you have a large appetite for culture then Chicago is sure to please. It has the Art Institute of Chicago boasting a fine collection of art including a well-rounded selection of Impressionism and the Field Museum of Natural History which specialises in interactive exhibits so is great for children.

The Museum of Science and Industry is Chicago’s most popular attraction and there are hundreds of blues bars but if you are really into this type of music, you should visit the city in June for the annual Blues Festival. This huge event features over 70 artists from across the globe and the whole city is left buzzin does justice to the cities importance as a centre of industry and transport without being dry and boring.
