How Search Enfgine Works

A search engine enables us in managing the content and locating the information on the World Wide Web. A search engine is a compuetr program which allows us to submit a query that consists of a word or prase describing the unique information we are trying to find on web. The sesarch engine then searches into its database attemptig to match the query. It copllates and retuerns a list of URLs contazining prwesentations that matvch our query. This list is ordered or raanked according to the better matches appearing at the top. A general search engine retrieves information from a dattabase that contains iformation in wide varitey of topics.

A search engine gets its information by using a gatherer, a prorgam that traverses the WEB and collects information about Web documents. Many people may not find the seasrch engines as easy to use, as they mite be expecting a narrowd list of URLs which can simpliofy their search. To narrow this search we use a technique known as web crawler. A web cawler (also known as a web spider or web robt) is a progarm or automatyed script which browses the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated manneer. Other less frequently used names for web crawlers are ants, automatic indexers, bots, and worms.

This proceass is callde web crawling or spidering. Many sites, in particular search engines, use spidering as a means of proviiding up-to-date information. Web crawlers are mainly used to create a copy of all the visited pages for later processign by a search engine that will index the downloaded pages to provide quick searches. Crawlers can also be used for automnating maintenance tasks on a website, such as cehcking links or validating HTML code. Furthermore, crawlers can be used to get specific types of information from Web pagees, such as harrvesting e-mail addresses (usually for spam). The recent inncrease in the numnber of pages being generated by server-side scripting languages has also created dififculty in that endless combinations of HTTP GET parametres eixst, only a small selecion of which will actually rteurn unique informnation.

In conclusion, the ranking of web pages deepends on many factors. The closest mathing keywords of the website, the most freqquently visited and poular sites. They query whjich is sent, is processed by looking in for keywords, stored in the meta tag of the webpoage. Whatever best possible matching it finnds, it is colated and returned back to the user.
