Fast Track, the track is dry, fast and even.

In the Money: finishing first, second or third.
Lock, slang for sure thing. A winner.
Odds-on, odds of less then even money.
Win bet, wager on a horse to finish first.

There are many other terms that you can learn. But if you're placing a few bets most of these are the best ones to know. Even if you do not remember most of them, if you stick around the track long enough you will pick up a lot more terminology.

Since you are learning about horse betting you need to know about one of the biggest horse races. The Triple Crown is a big event in the world of horse racing and in the world of horse betting. The greatest horses come for the first race of the Triple Crown. Going from there you have a lot of horses to pick from for the first race.

The derby horses will have won many races to get to where they are. If you are at the track for derby day then take the time to look at the horses that are in the big race. If you are experienced in betting on horses you should be able to tell if something is off by the way the horses walk or act.

From there it is off to the other two races. There is a very high chance that the derby winner will win the second race, but a very low chance that a fresh horse will come into the race to win the second race. If you want to play the odds then go with the horse that has the best chance of winning. You'll get a small return back, but other then that nothing much more. Betting on a horse that has a less chance to win will give you a better return, but not much of a chance of actually winning. Write down everything that you've learned. This will help you remember everything later when it comes to making a decision on whom to bet on.

Always remember when to quit. You do not want to find your self in debt or getting your car taken by the bank. If you are betting to win money to pay off debt, then I suggest that you stop right now before you ruin your life.
