Gaining Weight With Raw Food

For the most part raw eaters talk about raw foods and how they might help achieve weight reduction. However, there are some folks in an exact opposite boat. These people need or want to add pounds however they would like to eat clean foods and put on healthy pounds.
Below is a story about my once skinny brother and how he was able to gain weight consuming primarily green smoothies. My brother is a 34 year old, mostly raw vegan. He primarily consumes green smoothies out of convenience, as well as for all of the reported health benefits that can be obtained.
After eating primarily green smoothies for a few months he felt inspired and energized to go back to weight lifting in hopes to perhaps gain muscle pounds. He tried lifting weights before to attempt putting on muscle and boost his overall health. This time he wanted to take it more seriously, so he paid for an annual membership with the hope to be more committed, and he also hired a personal fitness instructor.
After several weeks of his trainer bugging him about his vegan diet and suggesting that he eat fatty animal protein and sugary snacks that take a longer time to digest, in order to gain the desired weight, he got rid of his personal trainer and continued to weight lift by himself, and began hunting for a diet, to gain weight, that he was pleased with.
He eventually learned about figs, a calorie rich fruit that tastes great in green smoothies, and for a lot of raw foodists, described as the superior choice of all weight gain food. He soaked a package of figs in water in the fridge each day (much easier to digest after being soaked) and through the day would add a bunch in each smoothie, and finally including the fig water in his last green smoothie of the day. He kept going with this and finally started to gain some weight! Although pleased with the increased weight, he still wanted to put on more weight, but by using other means than simply soaked figs.
He then researched some healthy fatty fish (keep in mind, he is not 100% a raw vegan, just mostly) and decided that good choices were sardines and anchovies. He actually enjoys the flavor of both fish so he started eating a couple cans every week, simply eating them right out of the can.
He then began including raw nut butters, like raw cashew butter or/and raw almond butter, to his smoothies. He began to notice more weight being put on as a result of this added dose of calories. To get more protein into his diet, he added either hemp hearts or bee pollen to the green smoothies.
For an additional nutritional boost, not for gaining weight but for powerful minerals he often added several pieces of dulse seaweed to his smoothies.
There you go. A few additional bits to smoothies and possibly even some fatty fish included to the diet, he managed to put on weight in a much better way than going through the Harvey's drive thru. Hopefully this method could work for you too if healthier weight gain is what you are after.
