Fraud can actually be a bit of an umbrella term for a great many things; embezzlement, deception, extortion, bribery, forgery, misappropriation, concealment of material, conspiracy, theft and false representation, amongst others. These crimes can all be placed in the hands of fraud solicitors who will be used to dealing with all of these. The easiest way of defining fraud is to describe it as the use of deception to obtain an advantage over another party or causing loss to another party by avoiding an obligation.

As you can imagine, there are an awful lot of crimes going on all of the time and they need to be dealt with by fraud solicitors. And, now that so many companies and individuals use computers to store their bank details, there are even more cases of serious fraud. Computers are an incredibly useful and convenient way of keeping records and other personal information, but they are always at risk. Over the last ten years or so, a lot of people have sought the advice of fraud solicitors because of ‘cyber crime.’

So, if you require legal advice then where is the best place to find it? Well, you can look through the Yellow Pages but this can be a rather long-winded way of going about things. Even if you do find a law firm based nearby, it may not tell you if they are fraud solicitors or not. Another way of locating someone is by word of mouth; this is the best way of advertising in any line of business. Although, if the people you are asking have never required such services then you are effectively wasting your time.

The easiest way of finding fraud solicitors in your area is to have a look on the internet. You are bound to come up with plenty of results and there should be lots of information on each website. Obviously, they cannot (and would not) give out any details about their past or present clients, but they can give you an idea of what they do. Most lawyers’ websites will have a section that lists the type of cases they have handled. If there is something on there that is along the same lines as what you need advice about, then the chances are you are looking in the right place.

Going through various solicitors firms online is also a very good idea because you will be able to get an idea of how well respected they are in their profession. Many of these sites will also include a testimonials section where their previous clients will say exactly how well their cases were handled.
