Format a Hard Drive with Computer Support

The time you are going to format your computer hard drive make sure you take back up of everything. Taking back up of data is important because you will lose all the data after the formatting. Ensure that you have all the necessary discs or external hard drive backup for any required applications that you would like to re-install after the formatting.

Most often, you save all your important data to the folder My Documents. You generally like to save the bookmarks or favorite option on the web browser you use too. So take a back up of all these and whatever other data you consider important. For taking backup, you need to save all the important data, folder, documents to a DVD or CD or any external hard drive, suggest the computer support experts.

Now you need to be prepared for the formatting process. Even if you are doing this for the first time you need not worry about it because computer support experts will guide your way.

First you need to go to the ‘My computer’ icon on your desktop. You can find the same from the ‘start’ menu. Now you need to right click on it to select ‘manage’. A new window with the name ‘computer management’ will come up and you will need to click on ‘storage’ to select it. Then you need to select ‘disk management’ after this. For selecting this you will need to double click on the option.

Now on the lower part of the window you will see the visual for all the hard drives on your computer. You can see here the different partitions of the hard drives. If you don’t have any specific requirement for hard drive partition you should go for making a single partition for each drive. Computer support experts now want you to delete any partition by right clicking on it and by selecting ‘delete partition’.

If you have multiple partitions on your hard drive and want to format all of them you need to do the same thing once again. If you want to format only one partition you can carry on with the formatting process.

By now the partition that you want to format will have a bar on the top of it and you will need to bring the ‘new partition’ by right clicking on it. This will bring up the new partition wizard. Computer support experts now suggest you to click on ‘next’ on the wizard of new partition. Make sure you have selected ‘primary partition’ on the next page and have clicked next. Now you will need to make the maximum size and once done you need to click on next. By default the computer will take the first available letter to name the new drive on the next page. If you want to choose a specific one you can o so from the drop down menu. You ill need to click on ‘next’ when you are done.

Now the new partition wizard prompt will want to know whether you would like to format the new partition and if yes which one you will like to have. You will need to choose the NTFS. This will provide you with computer support because it is faster and secure than others. In the filed ‘volume label’ you can give any name you like. You can make the ‘allocation unit size’ as ‘default.’ If the drive is used before you need to uncheck the box ‘perform a quick format’ but if this is a new one you need to check the box. Uncheck the box ‘enable file and folder compression’ and click on ‘next’. On the next page you will need to click on ‘finish’.

The wizard now will do the formatting of the hard drive. If your drive is old or large it can take some time but if not it will take a little time. Make sure that you have not closed the window ‘computer management’ until the formatting is done. When you will see the word ‘healthy’ rather than ‘formatting’ under the size of the drive you will know it is done. Once the process is completed, you can use the newly formatted drive.
