Often people leave their profiles untouched or uncompleted, however properly and thoroughly filling out profiles increases trust and builds rapport. Fill out all areas of your profiles on all social networks, talk about your business, what your interests are, what you do, and anything else you believe may be beneficial to your network. Adding interests will help other business people to find you and connect, and will help to create ice breaker topics to start a discussion about your business.
2. Use a Professional Profile Picture: Do not use a random funny picture or inappropriate photo if you are on social networking sites for business purposes. Using a professional profile picture helps to build trust on the internet. Since you are not networking face-to face on social sites, people need to physically see who you are. Also, do not use the social websites stock avatar; doing so will decrease the trust value of your personal brand.
3. Socialize: Invite people who have similar interests (network marketing, business, etc) to view your profile, or become members of the same groups. Join related networking groups and pages and invite other members to become your friend. Email (do not spam) your networks and friends and take a sincere interest in their businesses as well.
4. Set Social Networking Goals: Set goals as it pertains to networking and set out to accomplish them. Social networking sites can tempt you into wasting hours of your time per day through non-productive games, chat and other areas. Decide how long you will spend on these sites per day, and what you would like to accomplish by being there. Avoid distractions, set goals, and stick to them.
5. Don’t Spam: Focus on building relationships, and once you share your content those who are interested will come to you. Constantly emailing, messaging or posting about your business with no other useful information will leave you with an incredibly small network and zero trust value. Spam does not work. Offer to link to other sites in your status, help others and share your expertise without expecting anything in return.
When used properly, social networking can increase your network marketing business, build rapport and trust, and help generate leads and business.
