Obesity in children is a serious problem and just planning an exercise schedule for them will not do the trick. Being overweight can pose grave consequences for kids both physically and mentally. Physically, kids are prone to frequent headaches, poor concentration, weak immune system, blood pressure, various respiratory and cardio diseases at a very tender age. Unlike adults, they are also more vulnerable to psychological problems like low self-esteem, no self-confidence, and inferiority complex, which can reap dangerous results. A proper diet and an efficient exercise schedule can resolve these problems.

One of the main reasons of the increasing percentage of obesity in kids is the absence of any physical activity. In the age of televisions, computer games, internet addictions, decline in outdoor activities, getting children out of the house is hard for parents. Therefore, solving the problem of obesity is nearly impossible by introducing exercise schedules.

In the matter of kids, it is very difficult to make them follow a low fat or low-calorie diet as now days all the unhealthy foods and beverages have caught their attention. Including a regular exercise schedule in their routine is a difficult task as they tend to get bored of a compulsion really soon. We suggest these probable solutions to the problem:

• Talk to them:



The first step to keep children healthy is to talk to them. It is when they themselves realize the seriousness of the situation that they will accept the solutions to it. If you try to force diets or stringent exercise schedules in their routine, they are sure to rebel. To make them realize their condition, presenting the facts and their possible health hazards, you will be able to get them to lead a healthy life. Therefore, sit with them and frankly but calmly and tell them what to do about their obesity.

• Make them aware of the advantages:

It is the natural tendency of children that they resist any forceful change. Only if they understand and agree the importance of a healthy diet and an exercise schedule, they will follow it. You need to get involved with the kids and encourage them to eat healthy foods and active lives.

• Encourage outdoor games:

Usually children are interested in some game or the other. Try to find out their area of interest and encourage them to start or continue it. Outdoor games like soccer, volleyball, cricket, and baseball are more interesting options than a rigid exercise schedule for your kids.

If they are too young, introducing them to indoor activities like handball, tag, and swimming is a great idea. You can also organize games such as treasure hunts and frieze footballs to attract their attention. These are much better alternatives to exercise schedules. Moreover, your involvement and interest in their games or activities raises their confidence level to continue that activity.

Therefore, instead of forcing your kids not to eat foods like French fries, burgers, or other junk foods, or getting them hooked to exercise schedules, you can persuade them to play a sport of their choice to prevent them from the getting obese.
