Excerpts of My Jaipur Stay

Beaming the boldest pink during evenings, Jaipur’s magic has worked on me. Yes, I had been on a very self-discovering trip to the land of mysticism, India.

Landing on the Sanganer Airport and rushing to the nearest hotel is no exception to any tourist’s trip here. However, I was eyeing for something different. Something new yet unconventional along with the overwhelming fetish of carpets hovering around my head like an angel’s halo.

Suzanah told me that the carpets woven in India are exquisitely popular in the whole world. Everytime she used to read her book of yoga, her chantings related to her fascination towards this country triggered. Wondering about the cuisine, the religion and most of all the carpets and the tourist places, she actually gets the credit to develop the initial India inside me.

There was an adventure couple too, in the hotel in the room next to mine. They kindly spared me a lot of help about the local stuff and the language. I bet my latest issue of the Lonely Planet was to a limited assistance. Interestingly, Rosalie and Emmet did tell me about a local carpet manufacturer where I could go and quench my thirst to know more about carpets.

The next day as I finished my breakfast and finalised an appointment with the manufacturer, a peek at a Jaipur travel website, www.jaipur.cc tweaked my wanderlust more. An informative web portal that helped me much to know about the city. Meanwhile, sitting by the window as I prepared an itinerary to visit the Albert Hall museum, City Palace and Amer, etc., a fuchsia colored flying object in the sky attracted my attention. As my eyeballs followed that object, it was pleasurable to see some more of them join. Unquestionably, a flock of kites visited me as if welcoming me to their city, soaring and gliding past my vision in the horizon.

Boarding the auto-rickshaw, my mind was making up about how it would be there at the carpet manufacturers. However, all my assumptions were marked wrong, when I visited Jaipur Rugs and met my dearie friends - the beautifully enmeshed hand knotted wool carpets with Mughal motifs and the guls. It was actually overwhelmingly funny when I encountered those new patterns with a vivid color palette on shags. I had never seen a Sumak before, to which the catalogue successfully sufficed to my inquisition.

That hot July night stood witness to my newly acquired experience that had already set to weave the complete story inside my mind. As I lay on that hard coir mattress (I know as some of the coir strands were poking into my back) bed in my hotel room, reading Ilay’s articles written on the historical perspective of the Indian carpets, I fell asleep. The next day as I woke up, my smiling pout was evident of my dream where I saw myself as one of the pretty queens of the Mughal era.
