Duplex patchcords - Multimode

Patchcords are electrical or optical cables connecting electronic or optical devices with each other for signal routing.

They are terminated with connectors at both ends and they connect different types of devices like computers to switches, and switches to routers. They are available in different colors, mainly to distinguish their type. They are usually short, up to 2 meters.

Fibers can be simplex or duplex depending on the cable structure. Simplex patchcords have one fiber and one connector on each end while duplex cables has two fibers and two connectors on each end. Each fiber is marked A or B or they have different colored connector boots for polarity.

Simplex or duplex patchcords can be either singlemode or multimode. Singlemode fiber cords have a single core to support one path or mode of light signal. The core is also small at 7.1 or 8.3 microns.

Multimode duplex

Multimode fiber is used in most common data networking cables and has a larger core to support multiple light signals. Multi-mode fibers have a 125 micron cladding and they are available in two core sizes—50 micron and 62.5 micron. The multimode fiber jacket is usually orange in color.

Duplex patchcords have two fibers optic glass cores sheathed inside the outer jacket and duplex multimode fibers allow bi-directional transfer of data.

Multimode fiber can handle multiple wavelengths and they have multimode connectors at both ends. They are available in SC, ST, FC, LC, E2000, MTRJ, FDDI, ESCON & MU connector styles.

Multimode fibers are generally used for distances less than 2 km and are used for LAN cables, office network cables, and sensors.

At Aprocables, duplex multimode fibers are available in all major connector types and all range of cable colors. The normal cables are made on 3mm LSZH zip cable, but are also available in 2mm size. The cable is RoHS compliant and meets all international standards, plus have low insertion loss (<0.3dB).
