One of the contenders in Belmont betting is out as Dublin has been taken out of consideration for Belmont on June 5th.

Dublin competed in both the Kentucky Derby and in Preakness but he will not be on the board in Belmont betting.

Belmont betting won't have a great deal of celebrity considering that Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and Preakness winner Lookin at Lucky won't be in the race. Now that Dublin has been eliminated, there won't be a horse in Belmont betting that will have competed in all three Triple Crown events. It is the first time since 2006 since that has occurred. Dublin finished seventh in the Kentucky Derby and he was fifth in the Preakness. Five horses from the Derby came back to race in the Preakness but none of them are going in the Belmont. Dublin was going to be the horse that competed in all three but trainer D. Wayne Lukas decided to let the horse rest. Lukas stated that Dublin "has had five races in 12 weeks." Dublin will be directed to additional events like the Haskell or Jim Dandy before the Breeders' Cup in early November. "The race in front of you always looms the most important one," said Lukas. "Then once you get past that, the next one has the greatest magnitude. Knowing how that goes, we'll sit this one out and wait for the next series of big races."

Lukas has a good background training horses, and is regarded as one of the most productive American thoroughbred horse trainers in history. He began by training quarter horses in the 60s. After a decade of established skill training champions, he moved on to thoroughbred racehorses. Lukas was the 1st trainer to earn over $100 million in purses. His horses have won several times in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, the Belmont Stakes, and has claimed the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders' Cup more than any trainer. In March 2007 he got to be the first trainer to be inducted into both the Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Halls of Fame.

Lookin at Lucky's trainer Bob Baffert probably will still have a starter in the Belmont as he is planning to send Game on Dude. The Belmont Stakes might still be a great race with Derby second place finisher Ice Box the likely favorite. Also in the mix will be Preakness runner-up First Dude and Dwyer Stakes winner Fly Down. Dwyer second place finisher Drosselmeyer should also be in the mix. Nick Zito trains Ice Box and Fly Down whereas Dale Romans trains First Dude. "I think it's a great race to win regardless," Romans said about the field. "With horses like Ice Box, Fly Down and my horse, it'll be a good race."

Romans' filly Tapitsfly lately won him his first Breeders Cup in 2009. His horse Roses in May provided him with a huge $6 million win at the Dubai World Cup in 2005. He has been training horses since age 18.

There'll definitely be some longshots in the Belmont field with a few trainers seeking a big payoff versus a perceived weak Belmont Stakes field. That might make the exacta, trifecta and superfecta worth playing on Saturday, June 5th.
