As we get older, joint pain becomes more of an issue. Cartilage wears thin and arthritis begins to set in before we know it. Soon, we are experiencing painful joints and the only thing on our mind is natural joint pain relief. Here are some ideas that may bring that sought after relief.
Warm environments for your joints can help ease pain, so use hot packs for Natural Pain Relief. Cold environments can also be helpful.
On initial thought, the use of an ice pack for pain relief may sound a little off putting, but like warm packs they can help a lot. Fill a plastic bag with ice, wrap this in a towel, and place on the joint that is causing you pain. Within a few minutes the joint becomes more free and movement is easier as the area is numbed by the ice pack and the pain is reduced. One warning, do not keep the ice pack on the joint for more than fifteen minutes.
As mentioned, the use of heat can be very useful in reducing the amount of discomfort a painful joint can provide. A heating pad or hot water bottle can bring Natural Pain Relief to sore joints. Warming the joint using this method causes the fluid from the swallen joint to be removed as the circulation is increased from the heat. The fluid is then filtered by the kidneys by the blood stream and pain relief is experienced. Do not leave a heat pad or heating appliance on the joint over night or while sleeping, as you do not want to be burned!
Some people have recommended using grain or rice in a sock, that is then placed in the microwave to heat up to provide a heat pack that can be used for joint pain relief. The can be shaped to the joint and will not cause a burn if the sufferer suddenly dozes off.
Persons having a hot tub available can try a fifteen minute soak at night as well as in the morning. Using this method, you should be more relaxed at night, so not only will you experience less pain, but your body is also in a state where it can rejuvenate sore and painful joints. During the day you can experience better mobility and reduced soreness.
There is also the option of using heating oitments, creams and gels. These have a dual effect. The heat provided does help with temporary relief, while the massaging in of the cream helps with circulation to the joint which reduces swelling.
It is important to make sure you keep your joints mobile even if the movement causes pain. The worst thing you can do is allow a joint to become inactive. Movement increases blood flow which allows relief of swelling. In order to keep your joints moving, you may like to consider a warm water aerobics class at your local gym. This is a great from of light exercise that has been shown to help painful joints. These exercises are low impact aerobics that have the added benefit of a warm water pool. In addition the warmth will be comforting and provide natural pain relief for the day. Even individuals that are unable to exercise in other ways can take part in this type of benefitial exercise due to its low impact and strain required.
