Dropshipping is a type of retailing in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock rather he transfer the customer's order to the wholesaler, who then dispatches the customer directly. It other word a retailer works as a middleman between customer and wholesaler and make the profit on the difference between the wholesale and retailer rates. It is a recently developed supply chain management technique which provides more scope of business for the retailer without making a large investment. Nowadays one of the best options for novice of starting your own internet business is through dropshipping, it is a feasible solution for those people out there who want to start a business but don't have enough resources to do it.

Dropshipping Procedure: in the dropshipping process the retailer need not make a big investment, most of the retailers keep samples or show pieces of the items they are selling. Some retailer provides catalogue or list of items on their website. They provide full information about the products and provide the customer a variety of same products to compare the price and quality. The retailer takes the order from the customer with some or full advance payment, and will pass the order to the wholesaler. The wholesaler or the manufacturer will process the order direct to the customer with the customized or the blind slip of shipping.

Small Business: the small retailer is in profit in dropshipping as they can collect the large order from the customer and can process, without making any direct investment. They usually take small orders for shipping or larger order for a product. Their job is same as large retailer store but they can’t precede large order because of lack of resources. They arrange order and money from the customer and also responsible for the goods to be shipped directly to the customer.

Online auctions: Many sellers provide their service online where a customer can place order. They list all the service and products on their website. After taking order from the customer they arrange this order from the wholesaler. They follow the pre-sale item policy and are permitted to list products that are not in their possession.

Custom Products: A new rising trend in this business is private label dropshipping, in which the manufacturer produces a custom product for a retailer and drop ship it. They attach a custom logo or picture to personalized formulation for nutritional supplements.

Risks and Scams: As it happen in any business, some risks are also involved in dropshipping for the customer and retailer. Back ordering badly reflect the status of the retailer when he/she place shipment order but the desired product is sold out or not available in sufficient quantities. A good wholesaler is supposed to update the quantities that wholesaler has available.
Dropshipping is not free from the internet based cheating and scams. Some people took part as middlemen between wholesaler and retailer and they have no own product to sell. These middlemen gain profit they in reverse affect the margin of the retailer.
