At times it seems like the bite of a mosquito, but it is not. You get up in the morning and are subjected to extreme itching sensations on certain parts of your body. The area is red and the itching sensation is terrible. These itches bear the typical trademark of a bed bug bite. Though these insects were supposedly eradicated some years back, they have come back with a vengeance and are increasing at an alarming rate of 500% per year. The standard insecticides used for eliminating them are no longer useful since the bed bugs have formed immunity against it.

Not just you but every other household in America has them in their house. Bed bugs are tough to detect because of their nature of hiding in tough to view cracks and crevasses in the wall. Apart from that they can also be found in almost everywhere else like cupboards, suitcases, clothes etc. They are also found in abundance in the mattress from where they find easy access to your body. These insects are attracted by the warmth of your body and also by the carbon dioxide fumes released which you exhale from your nose.

Since these insects generally come out of their habitats at night and stay hidden in deep and unobservable recesses during the daytime, it is very tough to say for sure whether they are there in your home or not. But, the strong itching and burning sensation is a tell-tale sign that they are very much present in your home. The worst part is that the host… that is you… have no inkling when they are attacked by these bugs… generally an hour or so before dawn.

This is due to the anticoagulants and anesthetics injected by one of the dual tubular pipes on these insects, this nulls the area of your skin which is being attacked. The other tubular pipe is used to suck in your blood. It is only after a few hours that the itching sensation starts. Since these insects hide during the daytime and even venture forth at night for a short duration of time, it is very tough to actually see them. The best way to find out whether your bed and home is infested by bed bugs is to check for waste they’ve left behind. Check for small dark spots on your mattress, linen, or box springs.

There can be feces or blood left behind by these bed bugs. Check the folds of your mattresses carefully and also in the dark recesses of your furniture. Another option, though it might be troublesome, is to keep a flashlight handy by your bed and use it to examine the bed sheet carefully approximately an hour before dawn. Examine the bed sheet for small, cockroach like insects. Keep your movements restricted since bed bugs tend to run away at the slightest sign of movement of their hosts. If you are able to observe a few of them, you can be sure that you have bed bugs in your home.

The bedbug is an insect of the family Cimicidae that lives by hematophagy - feeding on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded hosts. Its name comes from its preferred habitat: mattresses, sofas, and other furniture. Although not strictly nocturnal, bedbugs are mainly active at night. www.howtokillbedbugs.net
