Our face is the first thing that people notice, so if we have damaged skin with rough spots, wrinkles and redness, we simply might prefer to hide. In a way our face is our calling card, so keeping it in tip top shape is important to just about everyone. Is it any wonder that we see ads for creams and ointments just about everywhere. Bottles and tubes are lined up in drug stores, conveniently available alongside our groceries, and shipped to our door the very next day when we order from the internet.

These days, we start skin care when we're really young. Our moms have been educated to be super wary of the suns harmful rays, so they buy us funny hats with big floppy brims, and keep us under a shady tree most of the time. Only when we get to the magic age stipulated on the sun screen bottle, are we allowed to come out. Then we are allowed to go to the beach and play at the park, but only after we've been slathered with SPF 60.

With dangers all around us, we try to responsibly care for our body's biggest organ, our skin. Most of us do alright, but when trouble rears its ugly head in the form of pimple outbreaks, irritation, rough patches and flaming red skin, we need serious help. Most of us have heard of acne, but there is another condition that affects even more people called rosacea. It is a chronic problem that usually afflicts folks between the ages of thirty and sixty.

Before getting too upset, there are some things you can do to relieve your symptoms. For some folks, certain foods such as sour cream, cheese, yogurt, liver, chocolate, liver, spinach, beans and soy sauce, aggravate rosacea flare ups. If you suspect one of these, try not eating it for a few days and see if your condition improves. Often an antihistamine taken a couple of hours before you eat will do the trick.

Believe it or not, stress has a great deal of influence on rosacea. Sufferers who want to take measures to put a lid on it should try deep breathing exercises several times a day. It goes without saying that choosing healthy foods and riding your bike, or
taking a walk, will reduce stress. Make sure you get plenty of sleep as well.

Vigorous, high intensity workouts can be very uncomfortable for rosacea sufferers, so try to keep everything in moderation. Try low intensity routines, and exercise in short spurts during the day, not all at once. Don't go out during the hottest time of the day and try jogging in the evening or early in the morning. In very hot climates it makes a lot of sense to work out in air conditioned spaces, with a cold drink nearby.

Treat your face gently, don't use abrasive cleansers, and let your skin air dry rather than scrubbing it with a rough towel after your bath or shower. A quality electric shaver is better than using a blade, and forgo the tingly after shave lotions. Seek out products that are free of perfumes and made for use on sensitive skin. Even if you still have red flashes from time to time, don't hide, use specially formulated makeup and cover sticks to make yourself presentable.
