The braai has been an ideal way of cooking food. You are able to cook anything on a braai. You would believe that having a braai is fairly self-explanatory but there are still do’s and don’ts in terms of a braai. When you cook food in the kitchen there are certain ways it is best to cook and the same goes for a braai.

Do’s

Before you decide to do anything whenever you buy meat always check how much fat it has. You don’t want to be cutting the fat off for hours before you actually cook the meat. If you spend hours cutting fat off you might have to reschedule eating time which may upset a lot of hungry stomachs. The reason why you ought to cut just as much meat off is to get a lot more flavor to the meat and also it is much healthier.

Another tips is to use marinade as meat alone can taste quite boring. You can judge for yourself how much marinade you wan to use and there are many flavors from which you can choose. Always wash your hands with anti- bacteria soap before touching the meat as meat is a breeding ground for bacteria. It is also recommended that you leave the marinade on the meat for a few minutes to an hour (in the fridge) so the marinade is able to absorb.

As this is regards to a fire braai it is recommended to utilize charcoal and wood to light and maintain the fire. You don’t want to produce too much heat at first. Monitoring the temperature is also important as meat over flames can easily get burnt. You cannot start cooking over flames, you’ll burn the meat.

Be sure you clean your braai when you begin cooking. Grease may be very bad for your food and safety. Be sure to contain the right cleaning materials, some have dangerous chemicals and if consumed can lead to food poisoning.

What Not to do

Do not use lighter fluid to start the fire, your food might end up tasting like chemicals and this is also potentially hazardous. There have also been a lot of uncontrollable fires due to lighting a fire with this fluid. Do not use gas as this is dangerous and it is obvious that your food will taste like gas. It is better to use non toxic fire lighters. Fire lighters are still poisonous so do not put meat on the braai before the fire lighters are burnt up.

Another important factor is where the braai is situated. For obvious reasons do not place a flaming braai under a tree with low hanging branches and also not close to where kids are. Scout the region before you place it. Ensure you have enough space around the braai area as smoke can also be harmful to children.

A braai should invariably be fun and enjoyable so if you remember a few easy tips you might just have a flawless braai.
