A commonly held myth is that education is valid only if it has been pursued through years of attending classes at a university campus. It may be hard to believe that a perfectly valid degree can be legitimately earned via a distance education university; and yet, it is possible. Completing an adult degree program demonstrates an unquestionable level of willpower, responsibility, motivation, and capacity for self-improvement. These skills are highly appreciated at the workplace and constitute the main reason why many departments of Human Resources highly consider those employees capable of earning a distance learning degree.
Today, distance education is highly appreciated in the working environment.

Adult degree programs?
Our comprehension and learning abilities are higher in adulthood, after accumulating a certain number of years of skills and professional experience. There is a simple reason for that. At youth, when we decide to pursue an education, we lack the capacity and maturity to understand how we are going to use and apply the knowledge that we are being exposed to. Thus, we resort to memorization falsely believing that we are learning what we are actually memorizing. However, shortly after, we forget many things.
Why? Because our brain functions efficiently: it simply discards information that lacks practical applications, whether intellectual or emotional. After accumulating years of experience, we acquire the capacity to identify exactly what will enable us to accomplish or improve our professional functions more efficiently. A casual conversation, a good book, or even a speech is thus permanently stored in our mind with no memorization involved if it is intellectually or emotionally appealing.
Adults usually have better comprehension skills than freshmen.

How much learning?
We usually forget that education is just a means of providing us with the tools to accomplish increasingly qualified tasks in our professional career. For this reason, when designing the student's academic program, we consider all the professional knowledge, skills and experience the student has accumulated along his or her professional life. Besides, we are not more efficient because we study or read more but because we know how to apply better our knowledge in real-life situations. Studying and reading more will turn us into better educated individuals, but learning to apply knowledge practically is what will enable us to make sound decisions and act sensibly in life. And this is exactly the type of knowledge that we will need to succeed in the professional arena. It is by yielding positive results and finding solutions that the quality of our distance learning higher education comes forward.
What is really important is what we know, not how we have acquired that knowledge.
Applicable quality knowledge is more efficient than quantity of theory.

A distance education university is not for everyone, or for all purposes.
For young adults, a distance learning university is only recommended as a complement to on-campus education. For more mature students, who cannot afford to leave their employment or families, and who do not require the social experiences of a campus university, distance learning higher education can be exactly what they need. A distance education university should by no means be perceived as a substitute for traditional education. It is simply a different approach to face-to-face education. In many aspects adult degree programs can offer a better learning experience, however success in online university degrees also requires a greater degree of self-motivation and self-discipline.
