Work environments that are both healthy and friendly are far more likely to be more productive than those that are not. However, too few employers are aware of the ways in which a healthy workplace can be achieved. To create the greatest benefit for the staff, it is important to address as many of the different ways possible, in which the workplace environment can be made healthier. Here are just a few of the important key factors to consider when aiming to create a healthier, and hopefully, more productive workplace.

Flexibility in the workplace is an excellent source of stress reduction. This can be achieved by giving employees more say in how they carry out their duties and how they divide their time. The better the communication is in the workplace, the easier it is to become more flexible. A member of staff should be able to approach their manager and feel comfortable making suggestions about something they want changed. They should be able to discuss the issues together and come up with a solution that they both agree on.

Another excellent way to promote good health at work is by encouraging staff to stay healthy during the working day. This can be achieved by doing group exercises or by even having a gymnasium at the office which staff can use at times throughout the day. Keeping employees stocked up with fresh fruit and other health foods such as whole grain cereal bars is also a great way to keep staff from becoming sick. Employees who smoke should be offered assistance to stop smoking and those that wish to lose weight could be entered in to weight loss programs.

To ensure a healthy work environment employers must keep in mind the safety aspects of the workplace. Ergonomically friendly equipment and furnishings should be provided to reduce back pain and repetitive motion injuries. In order to be as productive as possible employers need to minimize the amount of time staff are absent from work due to injuries and other medical conditions. To ensure a healthier, more productive working environment these problems must considered before they occur.

Work schedules will also make a difference in the health of a workplace. Every employee should have a set amount of vacation and sick time for each year. Employers can reduce the amount of stress suffered by employees by providing more flexible working hours. Staff who have young children should be allowed to work around the times when taking them and collecting them from school.

Finally, to ensure a healthy working environment and optimize productivity in the workplace the relationships between managers and each member of staff they control must be positive. Some supervisors are hesitant when it comes to trying to deal with personal problems that a member of staff may be having. These problems however can affect the employees' work. Ideally, managers should approach the member of staff to see whether they can provide some support.

Promoting the good health of employees goes a long way to establishing a productive and friendly work environment. In order to work more efficiently members of staff should be provided with both support and assistance by supervisors whenever necessary. The rewards of such efforts include a work environment that is a pleasure for all who are employed there.
