Even after a gap has been filled, there is no appearance of the tooth being enlarged and so cosmetic dentistry is truly a form of art. What are altered are the angles of the teeth to affect the way the light shines into an observer's eye and so as not to make it seem that the teeth has been widened and instead make it appear that the only change done was the gap being filled up. Without harming the teeth in any way, the bonding can be removed and replaced if the technique does fail. Considering how the amount of enamel removed by the etching solution is so small, it could remineralize within 24 hours if left alone.

It takes a few days for the bonding to fail if a person experiences some difficulty pertaining to defective enamel. However, bonding is not a panacea and will never replace the need for other kinds of restorative work. On several occasions, it would be best to do a crown if the structural integrity of the tooth is compromised.

With people worrying about their front teeth all the time, dentists are worried that as bonding becomes more popular the people will start to disregard their back teeth regardless of how beneficial cosmetic dentistry has been. What is cheaper is bonding than crowning. When it comes to bonding, it is not a permanent solution. It is necessary for the process to be repeated anywhere from three to five years after the resin has been applied because discoloration and flaking may begin to occur.

A person who smokes and drinks coffee regularly is prone to staining. As bonding on the back teeth which is at its stage of infancy is used to replace silver fillings, with more improvements it could eliminate the need for much drilling. When the decayed area has been scraped off with a hand tool, the dentist will need to apply the resin directly to the dentin which is a substance beneath the enamel that makes up the body of the tooth.

Serving as a sealant to correct pits and grooves in the enamel on the back teeth is the bonding process but any defects can lead to tooth decay being invited in. Apart from having more adults retaining their teeth, thirty seven percent of children nowadays have never had a cavity according to the Academy of General Dentistry. Yes, it seems practical now but later on it can lead to numerous expenses.
