Over the years our set of permanent teeth are constantly being used and damaged. This often results in tooth decay and eventually tooth loss. We know that a complete set of teeth enables us to communicate with people confidently. Though we now have false teeth available, it can be inconvenient because we have to remove them every now and then and especially for cleaning. This problem is solved by new technology that modern dentistry has developed - dental implants.

Dental implants are artificial teeth that are planted in the gums to replace those that are lost. This type of procedure is categorized as a kind of prosthetic dentistry or artificial replacement dentistry and it is classified as a cosmetic dentistry procedure. This type of procedure is becoming popular, especially for those who are looking for permanent procedures to replace their lost teeth.

The procedure for a dental implant is called Osseo integration. In this procedure, the artificial tooth is directly implanted into the jaw. This type of direct implant is the most commonly used procedure. This is done in two easy steps. First, the jaw is prepared for the implantation. Teeth implants are like screws so the dentist must bore a hole in the jaw where there is no tooth called the edentulous. The dentist must be highly skilled to do this procedure to avoid damaging facial nerves like the nerve in the mandible (jaw bone) called the inferior alveolar nerve.

Once this is successfully done, the dentist will proceed to the second step which includes the placement of the tooth implant. This is done by widening the initial hole slowly to accommodate the implant. Then the tooth screw will be slowly planted in the hole. Afterwards a protective covering will be placed on the base of the implanted tooth to allow healing and to facilitate the anchorage.

A crown is also placed temporarily on the gum to facilitate the natural shaping of the implanted tooth. The procedure is considered done once the protective covering is removed and the dental crown is replaced with a permanent crown.
Dental implant costs vary between dentists and the kind of technology that is used in the procedure. However, normal dental implants prices range from £800 to £3000. The best dental implants may cost more but they are guaranteed to deliver very good results.

If you think that the cost is too high for you, you may want to try a dental bridge instead. This procedure costs less since it is less complicated. However, if your teeth really need a dental implant procedure, then why not have it done. The cost of a dental implant is nothing compared to the satisfaction and confidence of having a new permanent tooth and being able to bite on it again.
