Most people don't expect to roll out of bed at any moment and find that their community has been devastated by a scorching fire, chemical substance disaster, harmful storm or terrorist action. All the same, you and I both recognise, in most cases based on our intuition, that unpredicted circumstances will and do take place. And when unexpected events occur, unfortunately most of the people you'll meet are not prepared and their lives and homes are dramatically impacted.

For instance: the tragic fire at the Station Nightclub was one of the biggest calamities at a nightclub. Did those operators prepare their venue effectively for that fire? History tells us, no, they were not prepared for that tragedy. Moreover, every day violent murders, stabbings and dangerous fights take place at nightclubs throughout the nation. Can nightclub managers safeguard their customers from these tragedies? The answer depends on whether they are responsible regarding their security and if they have the right tools and training, but customers of nightclubs often do not have any idea what security methods have been deployed at a nightclub. So what should citizens do to guarantee their own safety at nightclubs?

Here are a couple essential questions you should ask yourself:

Should you enter? For example, does the building appear to be in a condition that looks safe? When picturing a calamity, do you feel the main entrance will enable enough customers to escape rapidly? Is the outside area clear of debris or does it have debris stored near the structure or blocking up exits? How will you communicate with others if a catastrophe takes place? Identify a relative or friend beforehand to call in the event of an pinch.

Do you know what the military does to ensure that teams achieve their aims? They establish rendezvous points. Choose a well defined area in front of the nightclub to contact your friends. Then in the event of a major incident, be sure to locate them at your predetermined location.

Will you be able to escape? Before you enter a nightclub look around to see all available exits. Are the exits easy to locate? If the exit paths are blocked, communicate your worry to the nightclub's security supervisors and leave the building if they ignore you. Then call the local fire marshal to register a complaint.

Do you feel secure? Have the bouncers allowed too many customers inside the venue? Do you see wall plugs that look like they have been incorrectly maintained? Are there safety systems deployed such as sprinklers, security lights and smoke alarms? Does the club participate in the Club Watch Community Connection patron protection and violence prevention initiative? Ask the nightclub management for clarification on your concerns. If you do not think you are safe in the venue, do not stay.

Investing the time to understand the things we have discussed here will enable you to know what to do if an unpredicted event occurs.
