Phil Mickelson is the popular choice at the sportsbook to secure the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial this week. In three of the previous four years, this competition went to a playoff.

Mickelson is the favorite at the sportsbook this week but there are a variety of competitors including four players placed in the Top 10 in the world.

Sportsbook odds on Mickelson have him at 7-1. He is the sole player in single-digits this week. Tim Clark, Steve Stricker and Paul Casey are each 18-1 while Jim Furyk is the second choice at 15-1. In this tournament last year, it was Stricker beating Clark and Steve Marino in a playoff.

Though Stricker won the Crowne Plaza Invitational last year, Mickelson should certainly be considered a threat. In all of its history, he is one of only ten men to have gotten more than one win at the Colonial. He doesn't play the Colonial often and missed it last year due to his wife going through treatment for breast cancer, but he plans on arriving this year. He has a pretty strong record including the Masters three times and 38 wins on the PGA Tour. He is ranked number 2 on the Official World Golf Rankings as well, second only to legend Tiger Woods. With credentials like that, it's difficult not to have confidence in his chances at this event this year.

Mickelson who placed number two in the world while Stricker is placed fourth, Furyk 5th, Ian Poulter 6th and Casey 8th, making 5 players in the field that are placed in the Top 10 in the world. Clark is not in the Top 10 in the world but he is fourth in the FEDEXCUP standings. In the field this week are a lot of big names including many who have already won this year. The only player in the field who has won twice this year is Furyk. Other players on the betting board at the sportsbook that already have 2010 competition wins are Geoff Ogilvy, Ryan Palmer, Bill Haas, Ben Crane, Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Beckman, Poulter, Hunter Mahan, Derek Lamely, Furyk, Mickelson, Jason Bohn, Clark and Jason Day who won the Byron Nelson Championship last week.

Mickelson, Kenny Perry and Corey Pavin have won this event two times and they will be hoping for their third win at Colonial. Other former winners in the field this week include Stricker who won last year, Rory Sabbatini, Tim Herron and Steve Flesch. Not to be left out of the who's who of golf that will be teeing it up at this occasion are Mike Weir, David Toms, Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, Sean O'Hair, K.J. Choi, Angel Cabrera, Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Justin Leonard, Kevin Na, Vijay Singh and Y.E. Yang.

This event is an excellent time to bet golf odds at the sportsbook if you really don't believe Mickelson will triumph. You can get someone like Dustin Johnson who has already won this week at betting of 37-1. Heath Slocum always seems to be in the hunt and he is 47-1 at the sportsbook.
