Rapid relief for your families congested drains pipes

What comes to mind quickly when faced with choked drainage in your bathroom? The simplest one is to use the good old plunger. The whole process of unclogging a blocked drain pipe is pretty simple and straightforward. What you don't want to do however is to vigorously pump up and down like a jack hammer. Place the cup of the plunger exactly over the drain pipe and push it downwards and upwards with short sharp movements that generate suction within the drain and pipe. In theory the suction created by pulling up quickly will dislodge the material that is clogging your bathtub, toilet or sink. It should be noted here that some bath tubs and sinks have overflow outlets that must be plugged with a sponge or wet towel before using your plunger if this approach is to work.

Instead of using your plunger you can apply commercial products containing chemicals that can dissolve the blockage, for instance concentrated waste pipes cleaner. But it would only be recommended to resort to using chemicals after you have tried fixing the problem with a drains pipes plunger. The chemicals must sit for a while as it eats away at the blockage, then you must run hot water down the drain pipe to flush it out. During the cleaning process, chemicals and dirt may spill over your clothes, therefore as a precaution wear old clothes. Putting on eye cover will be a good idea if you intend to plunge again and prevent the splattering of left over chemicals into your eye. To avoid unwarranted problems from creeping up, follow the manufacturers instructions ardently.

The next thing you can attempt to use if your plunger is ineffective is to loosen the nuts holding the P-trap in place with pliers or a pipe wrench. Removing the drainage trap can release a sudden rush of waste water, so keep a mop and pail handy, put a bucket underneath the p-trap before you disconnect it. In order to avoid scratching the chrome surface of your pipes while at the same time getting a tight hold up them, you can cover the metal jaws of your wrench with electrical tape. Once the P-trap is removed, check the trap for any solid materials obstructing the pipe opening. If, however you cannot find any solid materials the problem is probably harder to get to, between the trap and the soil stack deep in the waste pipes pipework.

A deep clog in the toilet can be loosened by a toilet auger. If you are attempting to clean the drain pipe of your tub or sink, you should use a drain pipe snake. Because of their size and length, drainpipe snakes are well designed for getting at stoppages in small spaces in difficult to reach places. By twisting the adjustable handle to drill into the clog, you then pull the obstruction up and out of your drainage. The P-trap should be reconnected once the obstruction is cleared, slowly flush the drainpipe with hot water to confirm that there is no obstruction and that there are no leaks. Make sure that everything is tight and sealed properly and test the P-trap for leaks.

You need to take professional drainage clearance help in case you are unable to unclog the drainage by any of these methods. Some common problems that are beyond the capabilities of the common homeowner are stoppages in the soil stack or the sewer service by tree roots or even a collapsed pipe which could be the result of old age or deterioration of the pipes because of Mother Nature or an unforeseen Act of God.
