For the longest time, the wreath has been one of the most enduring decorations come Christmas time. However, have you ever thought about how it came about and its significance or meaning?

Back in the day, wreaths were generally regarded as a symbol that divine favor has been bestowed in an individual. It signified that the gods were giving you favor. The circle represented eternity because of its never ending repetition. The Romans regarded the wreath from Apollo as a sign of eternal love. On the other hand, the Druids believed that the wreath was a proclamation of human's surpassing the normal timelines. As time passed, migrations happened and cultures mixed. Because of this, pagan and Christian custom intertwined and has come to provide the meaning of the wreath as we know today.

The meaning represented by the circle remained; however, it came to mean the unending love of Christ and Jesus. Other things that became representative of the blood of Christ were the holly berries and the scarlet ribbon that were associated with wreaths. On the other hand, as a whole, Christmas wreaths are thought to symbolize the crown of thorns that Jesus had to wear during his crucifixion.

Knowing about the history of Christmas wreaths is important, however, it is equally necessary to know how to make one if you intend to use them as decorations to further spruce up your home for the coming holidays. You don't even have to buy a pre-made wreath; you can simply create your own to make it more personal. All you need would be a wreath ring, florist wire and then some vegetation to use as decoration.

You can buy the wreath ring and the florist wire in any store. They are very affordable and you will not have a hard time finding it. For the vegetation, you can go ahead and take a walk at the park or around your neighborhood. Just make sure that you'll go ahead and ask permission from neighbors before taking any of their vegetation. As a base, conifers are usually used. You can incorporate the ivy, holly and other shrubs in the wreath. Berries, seedpods, poppies, teasels, and pinecones are also great to incorporate for color.

One, you need to go ahead and tie a piece of wire at the bottom of each of the vegetation. Tie the wire from the foliage to the wreath ring. You need to keep repeating this procedure until you are sure until you obtain a secure base. When everything is in place, you can start adding the vegetation.

This is the part where you can allow your imagination to run free. Be creative and create a pleasing design. The more interesting elements you'll add, the more it will become better.

Once done, you should be ready to hang your Christmas wreaths at your front door for every visitor to see and adore.
