Insomnia is constantly on the rise. There are always new problems arising that cause us to lose sleep. Chinese medicine may have the cure for insomnia. The traditional medicine has been around for many centuries, but it has been decreased in usage. Maybe we should give it a look.
Chinese medicine looks at insomnia from a completely different perspective than we do today. Instead of popping a pill to cure lack of sleep, traditional Chinese medicine believes that to cure insomnia you must first look inward to see the true problem. When the major organs of the body are not what they should be, insomnia is often a result. The Spirit is believed to be inside major organs of the body, and when these organs become misaligned it can cause problems.
In classic Chinese textbooks, there are numerous pages devoted to insomnia. Some noted types of insomnia are dream-disturbed sleep, difficulty falling asleep, waking up easily, and waking up at a certain time every night. These all relate to organ problems according to traditional Chinese medicine. From organs not being aligned properly to deficiency patterns.
There are symptoms that Chinese doctors are in tuned to pay attention to, to help pay attention to a patient suffering from insomnia. Some of these symptoms are when a patient has misaligned heart and kidneys they may have lightheadedness, weakness in the lower back, palpitations, and gets flushed easily. Someone with spleen/ heart deficiency may be very forgetful, have poor concentration, and may worry over everything.
Chinese doctors observe the kidneys the most when dealing with insomnia problems. The kidneys are the major organs for observing for sleep problems. The kidneys store energy and when they are no longer capable of storing that energy insomnia occurs. It occurs because the excess energy rises up to the heart, which is the spirit. This greatly disturbs the heart and causes the problems.
A few cures for insomnia in traditional Chinese medicine are acupuncture, herbal therapy, and acupressure. Acupuncture has proven to be a wonderful cure for insomnia. However, for those not comfortable letting someone put needles in your body, herbal therapy is very healing. Some common flavors are chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, and passion flower. Acupressure or a massage is another alternative. The pressure on your body corrects your energies.
Insomnia is an ever increasing problem in our country. We try to solve it by taking a pill, but that does not make the issue go away. Chinese medicine focusing on the inner workings of the human body to solve the problem is on the right track. Maybe this is good advice for anyone suffering from insomnia.
